Xbox 720 to debut on next E3

by tommy on Jun.24, 2011, under News

Two of the biggest UK console retailers have cut down the price of their Xbox 360 console strengthening the rumours of the development of the Xbox 720. Although the name has not yet been confirmed, and no official word has come out yet, judging the these signs it is possible that we will see the next generation Xbox console the next summer. The discounts also indicate that retailers and console developers want to clear out their stock before releasing their new consoles. Microsoft also announced a few weeks ago that they would give away a free Xbox 360 console to students who buy PC with Windows 7 or a minimum $699 worth laptop.

Another clue that backs up the theory is that Crytek has announced the development of their new game which based on Microsoft’s new DX11 environment that is not available for the Xbox 360 series.

This year E3 show did not confirmed the Xbox 720, but according to rumours we will at least see a preview on the next one. Microsoft also aims to release the new console before Sony’s new Playstation comes out.

Xbox 720 Center News“Blizzard’s Rob Pardo has confirmed that his company has had talks with Microsoft about the successor (possibly called Xbox 720) to the Xbox 360.” by gi.biz

However, Blizzard reps denied it, “In the Lunch with Luminaries discussion, Rob said that Microsoft occasionally bounces ideas off of us, with no specific reference to any possible future consoles,” said the rep. “This should come as no surprise, as our games run on Microsoft’s PC operating system. We aren’t in discussions with Microsoft regarding any future consoles.”

With Kinect Controller, Hackers Take Liberties

by tommy on Nov.22, 2010, under News

Xbox 720 Center NewsWhen Oliver Kreylos, a computer scientist, heard about the capabilities of Microsoft’s new Kinect gaming device, he couldn’t wait to get his hands on it. “I dropped everything, rode my bike to the closest game store and bought one,” he said.

But he had no interest in playing video games with the Kinect, which is meant to be plugged into an Xbox and allows players to control the action onscreen by moving their bodies.

Mr. Kreylos, who specializes in virtual reality and 3-D graphics, had just learned that he could download some software and use the device with his computer instead. He was soon using it to create “holographic” video images that can be rotated on a computer screen. A video he posted on YouTube last week caused jaws to drop and has been watched 1.3 million times.

Will gamers again heed the ‘Call of Duty’?

by tommy on Nov.21, 2010, under News

Xbox 720 Center NewsWar’s specter once again looms large over the gaming world, as “Call of Duty: Black Ops,” the spiritual sequel to last year’s smash hit “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2,” goes on sale Monday at midnight.

The first-person shooter game — available for PC, PS3, Xbox 360, DS and Wii — has a hard act to follow. “Modern Warfare 2″ sold a staggering 4.7 million copies on day one and eventually became the second-best-selling video game of all time in the United States.

Industry observers say “Black Ops,” the seventh installment in the “Call of Duty” series, has all the makings of another blockbuster — witness the new TV ads with Kobe Bryant and Jimmy Kimmel — although the buzz is less deafening this time around.

“We’ve seen a tremendous amount of interest for ‘Black Ops‘ in our preview coverage,” said Peer Schneider, publisher of IGN, a gaming and entertainment site. “It’s consistently tracked as one of the most popular games on IGN for the past six months — often ahead of top performers like ‘Halo: Reach.’ We’re sure it will be one of the top sellers of the year, but it also faces a more competitive field than its predecessor.”

Ironically, the greatest threat to the video game franchise’s worldwide conquest may be its own success, which will be difficult to match. “Modern Warfare 2″ was praised for its lifelike visuals, Hollywood-grade set pieces and expansive multiplayer mode.

Kinect hacked days after release

by tommy on Nov.14, 2010, under News

Xbox 720 Center NewsMicrosoft’s Kinect controller has been hacked only a few days after it officially went on sale.

Code to control the motion-capture device has been produced that allows it to be used with a PC rather than the Xbox game console.

Those behind the hack are keen to use the device in schools, art projects and to aid human-robot interaction.

Microsoft has said it was not happy with the unofficial modifications made to the gadget’s control system.

The attempt to hack the control system for the Kinect gadget was kick-started by electronics kit maker Adafruit. On 4 November it announced it would pay $1,000 (£624) to the first person to produce control software, known as drivers, for the Kinect.
